I have always liked others like me....other rescues... other awesome canines...like my dear friends...Floyd, Esther, and G. I have shared wonderful memories with them; playing chase, smelling their behind, wrestling, trying to fight for attention from our pack leaders. Yes, all very good friends and wonderful times that I plan to have more of for sure.
- During my Memorial Day weekend this year at Sleepaway Doggie Day Care Camp O'Brien I was planning on meeting more rescues to play with and be friends with, but unbeknownst to me I was going to have a different kind of relationship than ever before. My pack leader mom Emily drove me in her red moving thing with me strapped in my seatbelt. When we go for rides my dog fur and floppy ears blow in the wind and many smells fill my snout and it's almost overwhelming. I usually enjoy going for rides because I normally get a treat of some kind especially after we go through the drive through. I normally bark at the stranger in the window.. but since Emily gives me treats I've been trying to bark less. On Friday before Memorial Day Weekend we were in the car and I was thinking this might be another quick trip through the drive through for coffee and a doggie treat... THEN we turned a different direction. We pulled into a driveway on 53rd 1/2 street. I could smell other animals. a cat, a rat ....ESPECIALLY another dog! Ohhh how exciting! Play time! Mom unstrapped me from my seatbelt and I couldn't get out of the car fast enough. It was extremely difficult for me to obey my leader's "WAIT" command and to not just lunge out of the car to get to that dog and start playing as soon as possible! We went to the backyard and there he was... the finest set of four paws I have ever laid eyes on. My heart started beating faster than a normal dog heart beat which is 60-100 beats per minute. So it must have been beating at least 100-120 beats per minute. I didn't know what do. I was barkless. His coat was so lush and shiny. His gait perfect and bouncy. His ears flopping beautifully as he galloped across the yard. Without even thinking I just took off running around the nice big yard. I have long legs and LOVE to run, run, run. The fine looking brown furred handsome hound ran beside me as though we had been doing this for years. Our strides were the same distance. Our breaths were perfectly in sync. It was truly magical. Then I heard his pack leader call out his name. "AXLLLLL!!!" Axl. Axl Rose. My darling. Where have you been all my life?
